About TheBrontëSister

Welcome to my blog!

I’m a 26-year-old reader from London, England and I started writing this blog to keep a record of my reading history.  It also meant that I could combine my addiction to books with my passion for writing.  If I can also encourage other people to pick up an amazing book they’d never heard of before, that’s a huge bonus.

I love fiction and non-fiction of all kinds and flavours.  I’ll read classics (not just by the Brontës), bestsellers, cookery books, trashy (or not) horror stories, children’s books… anything that comes my way, really.  I tend to buy books which have caught my eye in a second-hand bargain bin or a charity shop, or because someone has raved about a book with such a fanatical look in their eye that I just had to know what all the fuss was about.  It means that my choices sometimes seem increasingly random, but I love discovering something different.

I read in any spare second of the day, whether that’s while I’m travelling to work on the train, eating breakfast, or waiting in a queue.  I’m also part of a book group where I get to discover books I ‘should’ have read but haven’t and pretend to feel intellectual for a couple of hours a month…

I love recommending books to people, and if a book I think you’ll love turns out to be the best book you’ve ever read (which has happened a few times) it makes my day.

I hope you find a book here which will inspire you to give something different a try!

This looks like just my kind of blog. I’ve never really got into blogging so I’m definitely going to participate in this one. I’m a part-time librarian and I have found that people really appreciate it if you show an interest in what they’re reading. I love being able to recommend books to people too. I’m often inspired to read books on a whim and am definitely influenced by a cover or a bit of tantalising blurb on the book jacket.

Hi Bronte Sister, Thank you for following my blog. I applaud you on your theme choice (it’s the same as mine)! I have trouble finding people to follow that don’t use bad words or swear, so your blog is very refreshing, and I am anxious to read “The Drowning!” Thank you! Nancy

      Hi Nancy,

Thanks – I was pleasantly surprised when I first saw you had the same theme as me too! Such good taste…

Definitely give “The Drowning” a go! I’ve just got hold of “The Ice Princess” (the first in the series) so I’m looking forward to losing a few days with my head buried in it soon.

Thanks so much Bridget! I’ve been neglecting replying as I’ve been meaning to check it all out, but haven’t got round to it yet – just like you!! 🙂 I’m very excited though – it’s lovely to be thought of.

Just found your blog. Attracted by the name (slight Bronte nut myself) but loved your reviews. Nice to find someone like me who reads just for the sheer joy of it, a true reader will also have an eclectic reading history.

Great to hear from another Bronte lover! While I always think I would love a full-time job as, say, a critic or literary agent or similar, in reality it really is lovely to read what I like. I do occasionally take on a reading challenge with the idea of discovering something new, but I’m quite choosy so it’s got to be one which gets me reading something I’ve considered trying anyway!
